Harry thought the last time would be when he saw Snape dying in the Shrieking Shack. It wasn't, due to Snape's strength and willpower.
Then he thought the last time would be when he got engaged to Ginny, a stupid mistake once he looked back on it. She wasn't meant for him, but for Dean instead.
And surely the last time was after Harry cost Snape his livelihood of making potions, though that turned out for the best.
As Harry leaned into Snape, watching an inconsequential sunset, he realized the truth. There would never be a final moment between them.
