Severus brushed the hair out of Harry's face and watched the boy in a listless sleep. His N.E.W.T.s had been especially hard on him and after his last exam, he had stumbled into Severus' arms and passed out. There was only one thing he could do and Severus carried Harry to his chambers in the dungeons.
He left Harry for a moment to brew a potion he knew the boy would need when he woke up. Staring into his steaming cauldron, Severus tried not to think about the reason behind Harry's condition, but the thought was always on the forefront of his mind. Defeating Voldemort was supposed to be a wonderful thing, but before the Dark Lord died, he cursed a sickness of the body and mind on Harry. There was a cure, there had to be, but so far, his efforts to find one had failed. The best he could do was ease the pain.
A groan came from the bedroom and Severus quickly bottled the potion before returning to Harry. "Drink this." As Harry struggled to swallow the potion, liquid running down his chin, Severus stilled the pang in his heart. He wanted to whisper, "I love you," but the words choked him, and so he kissed the top of Harry's head and helped him lie back down. Seeing Harry weak was wrong, but so was being weak himself. As soon as the boy fell into a deep slumber, Severus left the room to work on a cure. The sooner Harry was cured, the better for his own peace of mind. Only when he was away in his lab, could he release his emotions. "I love you."
