For the last several days, Monica dreamt of freedom. There were agents everywhere coming for her and people like her. She couldn't return home and she'd been separated from the rest of her family.
Monica ran her fingers through her hair as she climbed over a fence. There were clothes hanging off a line and she snagged some in her size before ducking somewhere to change. She wouldn't get very far in an orange jumpsuit. Finally, she jammed a large hat over her head.
She needed to contact Micah as soon as possible. There had to be a way out.
Monica climbed to the top of the roof, clutching the cell phone she'd stolen from inside the house. "Come on, this has to work." She punched in their secret code and waited.
She let out a sigh of relief and typed her location. Micah would come for her.
Monica leaned back on her arms and stared up at the night sky. Once her and Micah met up, they would go after the scumbags who captured their people. She was a hero. That didn't change. This was just a bigger mission than she was used to.
She could handle it.
