A woman walked her husband to his car to kiss him good-bye as he went
to work. He started up the car and pulled out of the driveway. The
woman smiled and started back towards the house. She glanced at her
reflection in the mirror and mused. Her life was in harmony and order.
A wonderful husband, a satisfying life in San Francisco, a well-adjusted
daughter, and the amount of demons to vanquish was down.
It was true. Jin Hyun was a witch. Her mother was one and that was
the reason she migrated from Korea to San Francisco. To escape the
prosecution and to hide. Jin Hyun's mother was almost exposed as a
witch and she did what she could to escape. Now she had her daughter
Chi Hyun to take care of. To teach her the old ways and how to hide
away from nosy humans.
"Mama! Look what I can do." Chi Hyun ran into the kitchen and threw
her doll into the air. The doll went up and went down. Or at least
partly. The air began to thicken under the doll, holding it suspended
for a couple of moments before letting it drop to the floor.
"That's wonderful, Chi Hyun. Now remember what I've told you. Don't let
anyone see you using your power." Her daughter had inherited her ability
to thicken air. It was a weak ability compared to what other witches
had, but it was enough for her. "I think your cartoon show is on now.
Shall we see?"
Jin Hyun picked up the remote and turned on the tv. The news was on
and they were showing a live clip of... "No!"
"Mama, are those ladies like us?" Chi Hyun asked innocently. Of course
they were witches. They had to be, the way they vanquished that demon.
"Yes, sweet pea. They are. Those two are Prue and Piper Halliwell.
They, along with their sister Phoebe, make up the Charmed ones. The
strongest witches in our history."
The familiar sound of orbing occurred and Jin Hyun saw her whitelighter,
Stephen, standing behind her daughter. She wrung her hands nervously,
waiting for the bad news that he would give. "How bad is it?"
His face was grave and his tone belied his urgency. "Real bad. Our
Charmed ones were caught on live television when they tried to vanquish
Shax. Twice. Humans know of our existence, Jin Hyun. It's not safe for
you or your daughter anymore. The Elders have put out an order for all
witches to go into hiding."
"You mean leave our home? Now?"
"Yes. Take Chi Hyun with you and go somewhere safe. I'll inform your
husband when he returns."
"Stephen--"
"Go. I have a real bad feeling about this. I don't want you or Chi Hyun
getting caught in the crossfire."
Jin Hyun hesitated but agreed. She went to their rooms to pack some of
their clothing and items. Telling her daughter to pack their food, she
went inside her altar room to pick up one more item. In here was her
family's Book of Shadows. It wasn't as extensive as other witches Books
but it was just as important. Especially now if someone realized that
she was a witch.
"Let's go, Chi Hyun. We have a long way to go." She clasped her
daughter's hand and they left their house.
Out on the streets was pandemonium. People were marching and carrying
signs that said, 'Take Me With You' or 'Repent' and stupid things like
that. Some were getting in their cars to drive to the Halliwell Manor
to protest. It was just madness. A frenzied kind of witch hunt.
Her neighbor, Kimberly Rapez, ran up to them and pulled on Jin Hyun's
sleeve. "Did you hear about those witches on Prescott Street? They're
evil, plain and simple."
Another neighbor surrounded them and started asking stupid questions.
Then another and another started after them. Chi Hyun began to cry and
still the questions pored on. Enough was enough.
"Stop it! Leave us alone!" Jin Hyun felt the walls closing in on her.
They just would not leave them alone. "Go away!" She squinted her eyes
and focused her power. The air around her thickened and pushed everyone
away from them.
Kimberly fell to the ground with a thump. She looked at Jin Hyun with a
weird combination of fear and excitement. "She's a witch! Jin Hyun is a
witch!"
Everyone on the street turned towards the commotion and started yelling.
Jin Hyun felt the knot in her stomach grow larger. She was now exposed
as a witch. A man near them grabbed onto Chi Hyun, making her shriek.
"We must protect the girl from this witch's influences!"
"Mama!"
"No! Get away from my daughter!" Jin Hyun thickened the air between the
man and Chi Hyun, stopping him from taking her. She clasped Chi Hyun's
hand and tried to make a break for it. Every time the crowd got two feet
close, she would thicken the air. It was madness, pure madness.

Night had fallen and they had found a safe place to rest. Chi Hyun was
sitting on a pipe, clutching her doll and crying. She didn't understand
the madness of humans. You could save them a thousand times over but
once they were frightened, there was no stopping them.
Jin Hyun paced around the warehouse. She knew her kind was in a precarious
situation. Humans thought witches were the demons now. Would they be
hunted? "Stephen? Stephen!" She bit her lip and walked back to her daughter.
Kneeling in front of her, she stroked Chi Hyun's hair and held her. "Don't
worry, it'll be okay."
Chi Hyun sniffled through her tears and stared at her mother. "Will it? You
used your power, mama, and everyone saw. They know about our secret."
All Jin Hyun could do was comfort her child and hope for the best. At that
same moment, the Source allowed Tempus to turn back time.
