Thomas was a pious man. He went to church every Sunday, lit candles to pray for his loved ones and those who were lost, and did good deeds whenever he could. He lost his wife and children in a car accident a few years ago and God was all he had left to live for.
His job paid the bills, accounting, but he hated the rude customers and the insults slurred his way when they thought he was out of range. Thomas touched the cross wrapped around his wrist and whispered a prayer to God.
One day, an angel answered.
Thomas believed in God, but not quite in angels. Uriel was something different. Harder, stronger than Thomas was, but he felt Uriel's strength was exactly what he needed.
"Yes," he whispered and Uriel became one with him.
He saw the world in a whole new light, Uriel's light, and was thankful that his angel was entwined with him, keeping him safe. Thomas saw true demons and prayed Uriel would see them through. He did, the demons destroyed with a flash of light.
Thomas was cocooned within Uriel's warmth as the angel led them to battle.
They belonged with each other.
