Lindsay entered the bedroom and leaned against the doorway. She smiled as she watched her lover, friend, and partner writing on her yellow legal pad while wearing her charming reading glasses. Melanie was so utterly absorbed in her work looking adorable, and yet at the same time business-like, that it reminded Lindsay why she fell in love with Melanie in the first place.

"Hey, lover," she spoke softly, knowing full well that despite how into her work Melanie could get, she always took time out for her. Melanie looked up and grinned.

"Hey, yourself." She put the legal pad aside and patted the space next to her. Lindsay sat on the bed and Melanie leaned over to kiss her. "That's better," she said as she grinned.

"Mmm hmm." Lindsay's hand slipped under Melanie's loose white shirt and curved it over her breast. "Gus is asleep." Her voice was coy and playful. "You know what that means?"

"Yeah, we can get some sleep now."

Lindsay pulled her hand away and sighed. Melanie realized that her response was not the right answer. "Mel? Do you sometimes feel we're stuck in a rut?"

Melanie wrapped her arm around her partner and leaned her head on her shoulder. "Nonsense. Just because we're not fucking every single minute of the day and night, like some people, doesn't mean that we're in a rut. We have responsibilities, a son and we both work full time."

"I wasn't thinking about Brian when I said that. We don't need his sex life to be happy." She tucked a strand of blonde hair away from her face. "All I'm saying is that just because we're women, lesbians, married, and with a child doesn't mean we should act that way."

Melanie laughed. "Now I'm interested. What are you talking about?"

"Nothing." She saw the look Melanie gave her. "Okay, so maybe not nothing. We are practically the embodiment of every boring aspect of a TV character. Doesn't that bother you?"

"Been watching too much of the WB, hmm?" She took off her glasses and placed them on the nightstand next to the bed. Taking Lindsay's face in her hands, she smiled and kissed her on the lips. "So what if the shows on TV portray women like us as boring? That's not real. This is." She kissed Lindsay again, this time softly nibbling on her lower lip.

Lindsay parted her lips, allowing Melanie to slide her tongue into her mouth. Lindsay's hand found its way back to Melanie's breast once more and alternated between squeezing the soft flesh while rubbing her thumb over the perky nipple. Melanie gently maneuvered Lindsay down on the bed, not breaking the kiss as her left hand reached into Lindsay's shorts, under her panties, and began fingering her clit. They broke away though when they heard Gus crying out, probably due to another of his nightmares.

Lindsay smiled sheepishly. "I'll get him. But don't worry; I'll definitely be back for more."

As she pulled away, Melanie spoke. "Still think we're in a rut?"

The blonde smiled. "Not at all. Kinda feel sorry for those TV characters though. They don't have a partner as wonderful as you. Or a son as great as ours." She winked and left the room, remembering to rearrange her clothes so as not to alarm Gus.

Melanie chuckled to herself as she took off her shirt and threw it on the floor. Once Lindsay returned, she would continue on with her very convincing argument that they weren't boring. Not at all.
